The Root Canal Rhapsody: A Journey to a Healthier Smile!

Image
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infected or damaged tooth pulp. The pulp is the soft tissue found in the center of the tooth, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes infected or damaged, it can cause severe pain and lead to other dental problems. Root canal treatment can help save the affected tooth and prevent the need for extraction. The procedure involves removing the infected or damaged pulp from the tooth and then filling the space with a material called gutta-percha. A dental crown is often placed over the tooth to protect it and restore its function. The following is a detailed explanation of the root canal treatment process: Diagnosis and preparation The first step in root canal treatment is to diagnose the problem. The dentist will examine the tooth and take x-rays to determine the extent of the damage and the location of the infection. If root canal treatment is necessary, the dentist will numb the area aroun...

TINY TEETH , BIG IMPACT: The Importance of Primary Dentition for your Child's Health"

Image
Primary dentition, also known as baby teeth or milk teeth, are the first set of teeth that erupt in a child's mouth. They usually start to appear around 6 months of age and continue to erupt until around 2-3 years old, for a total of 20 primary teeth. While primary teeth are eventually replaced by permanent teeth, they play a critical role in a child's overall oral health and development. In this article, we will discuss the importance of primary dentition and why parents and caregivers must prioritize their child's dental health. Developing proper speech and pronunciation One of the most important functions of primary teeth is to help children develop proper speech and pronunciation. These teeth act as guides for the tongue and lips, which are essential in the formation of clear speech. Without primary teeth, children may struggle to form certain sounds, leading to speech difficulties and potential long-term communication problems. Maintaining proper nutrition ...

"Empowering Patients through Education: The Importance of Patient Education in Dentistry"

Image
Patient education is an essential aspect of dentistry, as it helps patients understand their oral health needs and the treatments they are receiving. By providing accurate and up-to-date information, dentists can empower patients to take an active role in their oral care, leading to better outcomes and greater satisfaction with their treatment. One of the key components of patient education in dentistry is providing information on oral hygiene. This includes instructions on proper brushing and flossing techniques, as well as recommendations for oral care products such as toothpastes, mouthwashes, and flosses. Dentists may also provide information on the causes of common oral health problems such as tooth decay, gingivitis, and periodontal disease, and the importance of regular check-ups and cleanings. Another important aspect of patient education in dentistry is providing information on restorative and cosmetic treatments. This includes procedures such as fillings, crowns, bridges...

''CRUSH THE CRAVE'' - TOBACCO CESSATION COUNSELLING

Image
Tobacco dependence is a condition that frequently  calls for  professional intervention. Health care professionals are involved in tobacco control and cessation activities world-wide. Dental settings provide an excellent place for providing tobacco intervention and counselling. This is because dentists are in the unique position in helping tobacco users as they can reach large numbers of tobacco users and have considerable potential in persuading them  to quit. Dental patients  usually are understanding of health messages at periodic check-ups. Oral effects of tobacco use provide visible evidence and a strong motivation for tobacco users to quit. Oral manifestations  boost the effectiveness among  users in the early stages of tobacco initiation. One important  aspect  is that some of the adverse health effects of tobacco use are clinically apparent in the oral cavity at an even relatively early stages of use . Effects like staining of teeth ...

ORAL CANCER - CAUSES AND EARLY IDENTIFICATION

Image
Hi!!!! Today we will discuss an especially important topic - ORAL CANCER- CAUSE AND EARLY  IDENTIFICATION. We are living in an era where the incidence of cancers is ever increasing, and oral cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer among Indian men. This rise in cases of oral cancers is associated with the use of tobacco products.   But one might think that tobacco use has escalated in all other parts of the world then why is India seeing such surge in cases.    This is because tobacco usage India is seen in the smokeless form (chewing) along with areca nut lime, Pan masala etc.   While in the other countries tobacco usage is in the smoked form for e.g., cigarettes. This is attributed to the surge in cases of lung cancers seen in those countries.     Other causes of cancer include alcohol consumption, certain viral infections like human papilloma virus infection and chronic irritation to the Oral tissues by agents like an ill-fitting de...

Myths vs Reality

Image
Hi !! This is my first blog and let me start by introducing myself. I am a budding dentist and I am in my internship year. I work in a dental hospital that has the maximum inflow of rural patients. I would like to share my experiences while working among them . Also I would be sharing important information regarding dental and medical issues. Let us start by discussing some dental myths that I come across very often . Myth 1. Brushing hard leads to clean teeth It is a common thing that I hear during my interaction with patients that we brush hard for more than 20 minutes and then also I have yellow teeth . That exactly is what the problem is ... Brushing hard for a long period of time causes wear of the outer white covering of tooth that is called as the enamel and exposes the yellow colored dentin that lies below the enamel. Thus brushing should always be done with light to medium force for around 5 to 7 minutes with a soft or a medium bristle brush. The brush should always ...
